4 Ways To Know If You Have A Serious Cockroach Infestation

Posted on

It is important to make sure that you spot a serious cockroach infestation as quickly as possible in order to prevent the issue from getting too much worse. To help you do this, you will want to take a few moments to review the following four signs of an infestation.

Fecal Droppings Are Left Behind

While fecal matter from cockroaches can be found just about anywhere in your home, it might be more noticeable in your kitchen. This is because the kitchen is where the cockroaches find the majority of their food and the bright lights make the small droppings more noticeable. Cockroach fecal matter will resemble small bits of black pepper or ground coffee. Remember, you might notice a few different sizes of fecal matter, but that should be expected because larger roaches will leave larger pieces of feces.

You Are Noticing A New Odor

A large infestation of cockroaches will leave a musky odor in the air. If you find that some areas of your home are starting to smell that way, and cleaning and the use of air fresheners don't seem to solve the problem, you will need to call in an exterminator. You most likely have a problem with cockroaches.

Egg Casings Are Left Behind

Cockroaches leave their eggs behind in a casing that is easily identified if you know just what it is that you are looking for. The are usually oval in shape, brown is color, and are slightly transparent. You may or may not notice any full eggs left in the casings, as they may have already hatched.

One Is Spotted In The Day

Generally, cockroaches are nocturnal creatures and are not likely to be found out and about during the day. If you were to walk into your kitchen at night and turn on the lights, the cockroaches would quickly scatter. With a small infestation of cockroaches, you might not even notice when they scurry off into the cracks and corners of your kitchen. Therefore, if you actually spot a cockroach during the day, it is safe to say that you have a fairly serious cockroach infestation, as the cockroach was most likely pushed out to find food and water during the day because it is competing with such a large number of cockroaches.

Now, with those four things in mind, you should have no problem figuring out whether you have a serious infestation and need to call in a professional. For more help, consider contacting Ace Walco & Sons Termite & Pest Control.
